Vici's Little Conqueror: A Practical Stopover on the Road
Sometimes, you don’t need a destination—you just need a perfect, comfortable pit stop. That was the case for my husband, our two pups, and I as we navigated through the very small, appropriately named town of Vici, Oklahoma (Vici is Latin for “I conquered,” which is exactly what we felt after a long day of driving!).
This little house on the edge of town proved to be an absolute lifesaver for our quick overnight stay.
The Paw-sitive Highlight: That Backyard!
The main reason I chose this rental on our road trip was for our dogs, and boy, did it deliver! The property is situated on two good sized lots, giving it a huge, fenced backyard. My pups absolutely loved the freedom after being cooped up in the truck driving for hours! While my wonderful husband did a quick perimeter check to ensure all was secure, the dogs got to stretch their legs and burn off some serious energy.
Note for Pet Owners: The owner does mention this, but be aware that the yard has some weeds that turn into those pesky goat head stickers when dry. Standard paw protection and diligence is a good idea!
Cozy Comfort for a Quick Recharge
The house itself was perfectly comfortable and had everything we needed for a quick recharge before hitting the road early the next morning.
- Sleep Well: The King-sized bed was incredibly comfortable—we slept soundly! There’s also a Queen room (plus a crib) if you’re traveling with a larger group.
- Amenities: We were grateful for the provided linens and towels, the essential Keurig coffee maker, and especially the washer and dryer. A huge “YAY!” for being able to run a load of laundry on the road!
- Climate: The air conditioning and heat system kept the temperature just right.
- Practicality: The sofa and chairs were comfortable for a quick evening sit, and the refrigerator was perfect for keeping our cooler items chilled and refreezing our ice packs.
Vici Life: Keeping It Simple
This rental seems ideally suited for long-term workers in the area (like those working on wind turbines), and it’s truly on the edge of town. This is not a tourist hot spot—there’s just one restaurant in Vici, which served our purpose for a quick dinner. Since we were up and out early the next morning, we didn’t use the shower or kitchen much, but that’s exactly what made it ideal as a simple stopover.
While we didn’t communicate with the owner while on the property, the entry instructions were crystal clear, making check-in a breeze, and parking was easy right in the driveway. The owner was responsive and considerate when we did communication prior to arrival and subsequent to our stay.
A Few Quick Notes on Cleanliness
In the interest of honesty for fellow travelers, a small note: the unit could have used a deep and thorough cleaning. I took out the trash in the laundry room which appeared to have been there a while. The back patio also wasn’t ideal for lingering due to a little bit of trash and lack of general cleanliness and warm weather. However, the house did provide the relaxation and convenience for our nights stay.
I Really Loved…
While not five-star luxury, this little house in Vici was exactly what our road trip demanded: a super comfortable bed and a HUGE, safe backyard for the dogs. It had all of the conveniences we needed to make it a comfortable night and easy in and out. We were truly grateful for the accommodations and slept well before conquering the next leg of our journey!
