Finding Our "Slow-Down" Button: A Weekend at Kenneth’s Cabin
If you’re the type of traveler who needs gold-plated faucets and high-thread-count Egyptian cotton to feel relaxed, you might want to keep scrolling. But, if your soul is craving the architectural equivalent of a warm hug and a fresh-baked cookie, pull up a chair.
In June 2024, we traded the heat of Arizona for a stay at Kenneth’s place in the Duck Creek/Mammoth Creek area, and let’s just say—I haven’t felt this “at home” since, well, my actual Grandma’s house. My husband and I stayed with his brother and sister-in-law and our two pups.
The Vibe: Luxury-Free, Love-Full
This isn’t a “staged for Instagram” rental; it’s a living, breathing retreat that the owners use and have generously shared with the rest of us. It’s cozy, it’s homey, and it’s unapologetically comfortable. Within five minutes of walking through the door, I found myself exhaling a breath I felt like I’d been holding for months.
The Host with the Most (Responses)
I have to give a shout-out to Kenneth. I’m convinced he has his phone glued to his hand because his responsiveness was exceptional. Any time we had a question, he was there with an answer before I could even finish my thought. It’s rare to find a host who makes you feel that well-looked-after!
Riverside Dining & Shuffleboard Showdowns
The layout is a dream for anyone who loves a good view with their morning caffeine. There’s a full kitchen and a bar, but the real star of the show is the huge dining table that overlooks the creek. The WiFi is also available and reliable (even in this remote location!).
Pro-tip: The cabin has a drip coffee maker, so bring the big bag of coffee. You’re going to want several cups while you watch the river rush by!
Gaining entry was easy and parking was available right in front of the cabin.
When we weren’t staring at the scenery, we could be engaged in some “friendly” (read: highly competitive) matches at the shuffleboard table. And for those chilly mountain nights? The fireplace and central heat will keep you toasted like marshmallows.
Room for the Whole (Brady?) Bunch
With 5 bedrooms and 7 beds, you could practically bring the whole neighborhood.
- The Bed Situation: From a King bed, 4 Queen beds to 2 twins beds, everyone found a comfortable spot.
- The Logistics: A full bath downstairs (with a walk-in shower) and a half-bath upstairs.
- The Perks: All the linens were crisp and tidy, and they even provide the shampoo, conditioner, and soap. Plus—Hallelujah!—there’s a washer and dryer. Because nobody wants to bring a suitcase full of “mountain-scented” laundry home.
- Entertainment: Games are available for guests, including board games and outdoor games (cornhole, horseshoes).
- Relaxation: The owners have a jacuzzi available for guest use, which is a delightful addition to this rental!
Nature’s Perfection: The Back Porch
The location is a “best of both worlds” scenario. You’re right on Mammoth Creek, but close enough to Duck Creek Village for shopping and restaurants when you remember you forgot the milk.
We spent the majority of our time on the back porch. We watched the river rushing by, spotted local deer wandering through the yard, and let the cool mountain air do the heavy lifting of “relaxing” us. It turns out, watching wildlife is much more entertaining than anything on cable.
Tip: This property is pet friendly but pets must be kept on the property and not wander to the neighboring properties.
I Really Loved…
If you want to hike, ATV, fish at nearby Panguitch Lake, or just let your dog sniff some high-quality mountain grass (it’s pet-friendly!), this is your spot. Life slowed down the moment we parked the car, and honestly? We weren’t in any hurry to speed it back up.
