If you’re dreaming of a quiet Colorado escape surrounded by open pastures and mountain air, this Bayfield vacation rental is a true hidden gem. We’ve stayed here several times over the last few years, most recently in June 2025, and it continues to be one of our favorite getaways.
A Scenic Hay Farm With Room to Roam
Located just south of Bayfield and about 25 minutes east of Durango, this property sits on a large hay farm filled with wide-open fields, wildlife, and peaceful views. Our pups absolutely loved the freedom to run and explore. A pond separates the main house from the guest house, adding to the charm and serenity.
When you arrive, the guest house is left unlocked, and the owner provides a key for use during your stay—simple, easy, and welcoming. Our two dogs love the generous pastures to run and play and the host is super accommodating for our entire stay.
Comfortable & Abundantly-Equipped Accommodations
The guest house is incredibly comfortable and thoughtfully prepared. It features:
2 bedrooms — a cozy queen in the primary and a twin daybed with trundle in the second room
2 full bathrooms stocked with shampoo, conditioner, soap, and plenty of fresh towels
A full kitchen with all necessary appliances and cookware, including a newly installed range (2024)
A fireplace for cool Colorado nights
Central air conditioning for warmer summer afternoons

An Exceptional Host
The owner, Laura Rogers, is one of the warmest and most generous hosts we’ve ever met. She runs the hay farm herself and is incredibly knowledgeable about the area. Laura was always available if we needed anything and truly went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable.
A Great Summer Escape
Bayfield is a small, quiet town with limited dining and grocery options, but Durango is only a short drive away with plenty to explore. We love staying here in the summer as a refreshing escape from the Arizona heat, with cool evenings and peaceful mornings on the farm.
Our dogs couldn’t be happier to visit here with plenty of room to run and play as well as playing with Laura’s pup and exploring the hay fields. Occasionally, they may even spot a deer or two in the field early in the morning.
