Anniversary Gold: Falling in Love with Greer (and a Little Cabin)
For our anniversary in October 2023, we decided to skip the fancy hotel robes and room service. Instead, we grabbed our favorite four-legged companions, Gracie and Jaxon, and headed a few hours away to Greer.
If you haven’t been to Greer in the fall, put it on your bucket list immediately. The temperatures were crisp, but the leaves? They were putting on a show that was—and I don’t use this word lightly—breathtaking.
Small Town, Big Charm
The cabin is tucked away in a tiny, quiet neighborhood where we felt like we had the whole forest to ourselves. Our hosts, Jimmy and Alicia, were wonderful and kept the communication lines wide open. Access was a breeze thanks to a simple lockbox.
A Master Bedroom with a Mood
This isn’t just a “place to sleep.” It’s a 3-bedroom, 2-bathroom rustic sanctuary. The absolute highlight for us? The master bedroom has its own fireplace. There is something deeply satisfying about falling asleep to the flicker of a fire when the mountain air outside is turning frosty.
Note to the high-tech traveler: While Greer is remote (which is the whole point!), the WiFi was surprisingly reliable. You can still post your leaf-peeping photos without a struggle.
Dog-Friendly and Human-Approved
Gracie and Jaxon are part of the family, so a pet-friendly spot is a must. We did the “pro-traveler move” and covered the sofas with our own blankets so the pups could snuggle up without us worrying about the furniture.
- Heads up: There is a pet fee here, but for the joy of seeing them explore the pines, it’s worth every penny.
Trading the Remote for the Hearth
There is a TV in the living room, but honestly? We hardly touched it. We spent our anniversary the “old fashioned way”:
- Building a fire in the massive living room fireplace.
- Brewing a giant pot of coffee (shout out to the drip coffee maker!).
- Reading books and watching the wind through the Aspens.
Survival Tips: Snow and Snacks
The cabin sits on nearly an acre of beautiful land and is close to town and the local restaurants. However, if you visit when the seasons shift, keep in mind that Greer doesn’t mess around with snow. A 4WD vehicle is definitely recommended if you’re visiting in the winter months—unless you plan on staying until spring (which, honestly, tempted us).
Nature’s Grandeur
Whether we were hiking, fishing, or just sightseeing, we were constantly reminded of the grandeur of God’s creation. Between the nearby Sunrise Ski Resort and the endless lakes and creeks, there’s no shortage of things to do—if you can convince yourself to leave our cozy perch in front of the fireplace!
I Really Loved…
With all that Greer has to offer, solitude, peace and refreshing, why would we want to be anywhere else? Whether it’s a summer escape from the heat or another “fall color extravaganza,” this little cabin is officially on our “favorites” list. It was the perfect way to celebrate another year together.
