Who would have thought this fabulous estate was sitting on Lake Cross, just outside of Shreveport, LA. It was perfect for Jaxon’s first night’s stay with his new family. Gracie took to her little brother quickly and we spent our afternoon relaxing in the yard with them both.

Our "Resort" Retreat in Shreveport
After ten days on the road to officially welcome Jaxon into the pack in April 2023, we needed a place to catch our breath. We made a beeline for a gated estate on the west side of Shreveport, sitting right on the water of Lake Cross.
Honestly? We felt like we’d accidentally checked into a private five-star resort. It was the perfect, serene setting for Gracie to start “showing the ropes” to her new 7-week-old brother.
The "Gated Estate" Treatment
Hosts Leon and Juanita have created an absolute paradise. The property is massive, private, and incredibly secure—which gave us such peace of mind for our first night with the pup. We stayed in a beautifully appointed guest house that shared a roofline with the main home, separated by a handy carport where we could park right outside our door.
While the location feels wonderfully rural and “off the grid,” the WiFi was surprisingly strong. Not that we spent much time scrolling; the view was far too distracting!
Spotless Style (and a Drip Coffee Bonus)
Inside, the guest house was decorated to the nines and—my personal favorite—absolutely spotless.
- The Bed Situation: There was a king and a queen bed available. The one we chose was so cozy I’m convinced I could have stayed there until noon the next day… if not for a certain 7-week-old whining for his breakfast!
- The Kitchen: It was a full kitchen with a dining area, and yes, it passed the “Drip Coffee Maker Test” with flying colors.
- Traveler’s Perks: Having a washer and dryer on-site is always the way to my heart, especially after ten days of traveling.
Zoomies by the Lake
The backyard was the real star of the show. Jaxon and Gracie spent hours exploring the grounds while we sat back, laughed at their antics, and soaked in the lakeside air.
The property leads right down to a private dock on Lake Cross, complete with a small boat tied up and ready for a postcard-perfect photo op. The weather was so spectacular we barely even needed the AC, though it was nice have it.
Southern Hospitality at its Finest
Leon and Juanita went above and beyond by offering us breakfast—a first in all our years of renting! We were so touched by the gesture, and disappointed we couldn’t take them up on their offer. Our early-bird travel schedule meant we had to hit the road before the coffee was barely poured.
I Really Loved…
This home is officially at the top of our “Do-Again” list. If you want to feel spoiled, secure, and surrounded by beauty, this Shreveport gem is it. It turned a potentially exhausting travel day into a cherished family memory.
